Blended Acquisition In-the-field In-progress Imaging

14/08/2024

In 2021, Sercel provided a Seismic Data Integrity Service to support a MENA Mega-crew operating a project in blended acquisition mode.

  • Methodology

The service consisted of the following:

    1. Supplying a comprehensive software suite and workflow, including field QC modules of continuous records, to end up with on-the-fly 3D migrated images.
    2. Initial parameter setting of the data workflow.
    3. Remote support to fine-tune geophysical & sampling parameters to comply with operational constraints.
    4. Support throughout full block production and presentation of outcomes to the energy company.

    Results

Thanks to the service provided, the acquisition contractor was able to produce a progress migrated image of the 3D acquisition block within 24 hours after VP data had been collected. This provided assurance to company representatives that the acquisition parameters were adequate for properly imaging the objective, and overall project progress conformed to the plan.

This solution provides peace-of-mind for the key actors of the acquisition project as it can offer timely and meaningful diagnostics through an innovative method. This capability is particularly valuable in contexts where single point acquisition combined with blending noise challenges standard QC procedures.

Typical QC may be delayed by weeks or months, often until the data reaches a specialist processing center — a standard practice in blended operation schemes.
